Jan 31, 2020 San Diego

This morning we got up and decided to tour the city.  We had 4 or 5 things in mind, but plans sometimes change.
We decided to visit the Cabrillo National Monument.  When we got to the gate, our Senior citizen National Parks pass saved us another $35.

The Monument is up on a hillside overlooking the city of San Diego.  This pictures shows parts of the city as well as our hotel for 5 days. (center of picture)

From the Cabrillo National Monument, we were fortunate enough to see a submarine come into the harbor and turned around with help from a tugboat.  Mark, a volunteer at the park, gave us a lot of information about the area.

At the monument there was a Shaw's Agave plant.

The colors of the blossoms were very vibrant and colorful.  They usually bloom between February and April but were a little early this year.

With the help of Mark, a volunteer at the monument, we both got into the picture.

During World War II, San Diego also was placed on alert because of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Cabrillo National Monument is at the southern tip of the Point Loma Peninsula in San Diego, California, United States. It commemorates the landing of Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo at San Diego Bay on September 28, 1542.  This was to commemorate the first time that a European expedition set foot on the west coast.

Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery is a federal military cemetery in the city of San Diego, California. It is located on the grounds of the former Army coastal artillery station Fort Rosecrans and is administered by the United States.

In the afternoon we decided to go to North Island where there was another military base.  We got to dip our toes in the Pacific Ocean.  Grammie was hoping that her picture would be taken a little faster because the water was COLD.

On North Island is another place we could have stayed.  Maybe next time.
Thanks for watching where Grammie has been.

At this point, we have traveled 4,620 miles in 23 days.  The last price paid for a gallon of gas was $3.32, but was still cheaper than on North Island where it is over $4.00
