September 24, 2013

Today the weather predicted rain, and possibly 3-6 inches of snow in the higher elevations.  Because there is only 1 road leading up to Logan's Pass where we were going to go hiking, we opted not to go.  It only takes 1 person driving a car and making a wrong move to mess up the plans of everyone else.  Besides, in many sections of road there are no guardrails...just an abrupt stop hundreds of feet down.   It is what you call a no brainer.

This was the view of the mountains about 10 am.  We are about 3000 feet and it was 48 degrees.  Wet hiking sneakers weren't going to cut it.

We instead took a drive down to Bigfork on the East side of Flathead Lake that claims to be the largest freshwater  lake west of the Mississippi River.  It is about the size of Moosehead Lake.

Meadowlake Resort procured an old Girl Scout camp in 1996 as an alternate location for guests to go and spend time at a lake location.  It has all the things that a well stocked camp would have, only larger.

Nearby is a company that does Fishing outings.  Catches guaranteed.  Tom was thinking of going but at $300 for the first person and $25 for each person after that, up to 4 people, Tom didn't think it would be a good cheap date if he took Alice.

Later on we drove up to Whitefish to get a look at the city.  Most of the eating establishments also have gambling too.  There is no tax on food.

Later on we listened to a local cowboy and his cowgirl wife play a little music and tell a story or 2 about ranching.  He claimed that there was another deeper meaning to the book "Wizard of OZ" as he told about the expansion of the railroads.

Maybe a better day tomorrow.
