A little side trip today to Buford, WY area. Just a short ride to where a short hike was in order. The elevation was up to about 7800 feet and climbing wasn't a breather as one would expect.
Alongside the road was a tree that is growing out of a rock. More of the story at
Tree in a Rock
The place where we hiked for a bit had a lot of rocks that were well balanced. Not sure one would like to camp out next to this overnight.
The view from close to the top was really great. You will notice that the sun seems to be shining...but that didn't last.
On the way down the path we came upon a cow moose and her calf. Mom wasn't too worried that we were near because her calf was right next to her.
On the way back to the highway we made a stop at a grand monument to the Ames brothers who were instrumental in the building of what is now the Union-Pacific railway. Did I say a little greedy. $50 million was a lot of money back in the 1880's.
To read more about the scandal read about it here. Ames monument
Our evening plans to do a little bowling kind of fell through as a thunderstorm stalled over the city and flash flood warnings were issued. Power was lost for a bit so not being able to see the pins, and having to reset them yourself would have taken all night. Looking over maps for the Tetons/Yellowstone area. Can't wait.
