"Through early morning fog I see, visions of the things to be..."
Looks like either more snow or sunshine...a trip into the mountains will tell.
After breakfast at Shoshone Lodge, Tom took a picture of a chair made of Elk horns and skull. He forgot to mention the other day that the Boy Scouts each Spring collect Elk horns at the Elk Refuge in Jackson. It is done as a fundraiser. They auction off and sell them to raise money. Around here they get all sorts of uses.
Traveling up into Yellowstone was no problem but there was more snow up higher.
More snow....you get the idea.
There were plenty of Bison out today and they were really close to the roads.
Some were closer than others...
and some were just on the other side of the yellow line.
We spent some time going around the park looking at some of the different sources of hot springs. A lot of the central part of Yellowstone, known as the Caldera has a very narrow crust layer allowing for the release of heat.
This one just kept bubbling as much as 5 feet high.
This one called the Dragon's Mouth made a growling sound when the water gurgle to the surface amplified by the little cave from where it came.
The Yellowstone River flows to the North, away from Yellowstone Lake
as it continues to wind through the valleys.
The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone Park. The following 5 pictures were taken between the North and South Canyon Rims. This area is said to be one of the most photographed views in Yellowstone.
The Canyon flows for about 20 miles and at some points are as much as 1000 feet deep.
This picture was taken from Grand View location on the North Rim of the Canyon.
An Irish couple offered to take a picture of us. After the pictures and a conversation, the couple then went on to take pictures of other couples including a little chat with each.
Great views all around.
A view of Artists Point from the North Rim. Quite a crowd here after what started as a snowy day.
Tom finally saw another Maine license plate about 5 miles from the North exit of the park. The first one since leaving Massachusetts.
We made our way to Bozeman Mt. for an overnight stay. It was a pleasant drive as we made our way to lower altitudes.
While out for our evening meal, Tom noticed a partial tattoo on the waitress and after a moments thought....asked her is she would share her tattoo.
Without hesitation she...........showed her right forearm with a sketch of a mountain range with the following quote. "The mountains are calling me and I must go." - John Muir

That looks familiar, great pictures. You have seen more wild life than I did out there.
I know how the waitress feels. So glad you are having a great time. See all you can, and please, share!
