We decided to take a trip out in the country.....You kidding me, this whole state is country.
Curt Gowdy State Park is located about 20 miles west of Cheyenne. It is definitely a nice place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
The park is just shy of 7500 feet and if you are new to the area, probably giving it a few days to acclimate before hiking would be great.
There are areas where outcropping or rocks is more common and this is one of those areas. For those that like climbing, it makes it a little more strenuous.
Even though is is a great place for those who consider themselves to be advanced mountain bikers, there are still easy trails around Granite Springs and Crystal Reservoirs. There is also easy access for campers to drive into without having to back up to park your camper. Fishing is encouraged but not catch and release. The Overland Mountain Bike Club is active in the area as there are wonderful trails.
The new visitor's center was funded through a $900,000 donation from Bass Pro Shops founder and CEO John Morris. In the center there are 4 piecework quilts that were amazing.
