After 3 days and 832 miles to the south we have checked in at Norfolk Naval Station, VA
We left Maine on Thursday and the weather was reasonable and nice. We spent the first night visiting Tom's sister and brother in law. Sister got a mini lesson on a minor electrical repair and Tom thinks he may have created a monster. Not really but got it done.
The 2nd night we spent at Dover AFB in Delaware. Sad to say, we traveled so fast that we created a current and dragged the cold weather with us.
When we left today we finally got some pics. We decided to make a minor change and instead of going inland through inland North Carolina, we continued down the DelMarVA peninsula with a side trip to the Chincoteague Island area.
Headed south, we saw a good sized flock of geese but they appeared to be headed south.
Before we left Maine, a friend told us we were leaving at just the right time...just before the bad weather.
I wish you were right Sue but when we woke up this morning we also had some bad weather as you can see on the hood of the van.
The sign at the golf course just across the street read...Course closed today due to inclement weather.
We even had a problem cleaning the windows at the gas station. The price is continuing to drop like the temps. This morning it was $1.63 and this afternoon it was $1.41
On the way to Chincoteague Island there was a NASA tracking station that also has a runway where new pilots could practice landings on land for the eventual landing on an Aircraft Carrier.
Grammie was found trying to hide in the visitors center.
In the 3 red circles below there is a Boeing jet in the upper middle part of the picture that can be compared to a weather balloon in the upper left before it leaves the ground partially inflated, to the lower larger balloon many miles up that contains about 52 million cubic feet (basketball size).
Wandering around Chincoteague Island, we somehow got lost and ended up trying to get directions. Wouldn't you know it...they sold yarn.
We did happen to see an idea for a friend when he makes this year's Christmas presents.
We finally made it over Chesapeake Bay by way of the 17 mile bridge. The toll charge probably saved us the gas money instead of going around on the mainland. However, there is the price of yarn....
The Garmin was a little off going through the tunnel. Note the altitude, -428 feet.
Hopefully warmer weather tomorrow...for everyone.
Thanks for keeping track of Grammie.
