May 1, 2012

Today was turn around day. After 35 days and 5480 miles we are finally headed back east. We are headed towards Ridgecrect, Ca where we plan to visit Dan and Mary Kus and my Aunt Fran.
Seeing many drilling platforms offshore you would think that the price of gas would be the cheapest here. Sorry not a chance. Whoever came up with the phrase "drill baby drill" as a means of reducing gas prices was 2 marbles shy of a winning pot. However, after talking with some natives we learned that by drilling and pumping oil, the beaches are actually cleaner than if they had not, go figure.
One of my favorite programs, M.A.S.H. starts each program starts by showing 2 helicopters coming over a mountain in Korea landing at the hospital. For those of you that have seen the program you would recognize the scene. Could this be it? Not a chance, however it does look like the other 14000 places in California that do look similar. The real location is at the Fox Ranch up state. On our way to Ridgecrest we were about a week late to see all the poppies in bloom. There is a Poppy Preserve off Route 138 where there are a few of them. We didn't get any pictures but at least you can see some pictures.
