Grammie is back on the road again. We left home on Thursday and made
our usual stop in Danvers to visit Tom's sister, Joan. She has been
working on a project that probably had a start when we visited Poland. She
wanted to create something about her roots and spent a lot of time to write
some memoirs of our family starting with our grandparents who came from Poland
during the first decade of the 1900's. Her goal was to leave our children,
grandchildren on down with a bit of history and some memories to
share.
After finishing a puzzle that she had started and has become sort of a
tradition, we began our trip in earnest with Friday's 400 mile plus drive down
to Fort Meade, Maryland. It was probably one of the quickest drives
around Boston on 128, through Hartford, across the Hudson by way of the Tappan
Zee Bridge, down the Garden State Parkway, around Baltimore to Fort
Meade. While I would not recommend starting around 8 am on a Friday to
anyone, we were real lucky.
As usual, Grammie likes to go into the Military Exchange to find something she likes.
The food court was one of the better ones we have been through and we splurged
$15 for the meals for both of us.
Today we did another 430 miles down to Mooresville, NC and had an evening
meal with one of Tom's college friends, Bruce and his wife, Sharon. Like us,
they are both retired, however, Bruce, a retired educator, is very much
involved in doing science related presentations with his wife in schools, as
well as having done many presentations at a couple of local planetariums. He
uses some wonderful demonstrations to illustrate scientific points and includes
the audience in doing so.
Mooresville is home to the Original NC Auto Racing Hall of Fame, not to be confused with the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte. Mooresville Hall of Fame.
For those people back home, it is very windy and rainy here however the temperature is still 66.
Thanks for keeping an eye out for Grammie.
